Drone4Build promotes new skills for the professional use of drones in construction
The project consortium is making progress in developing a training programme designed to facilitate the integration of drones into various construction processes, based on the needs identified during the first phase
On September 17 and 18, Fundación Laboral de la Construcción has hosted in Madrid the second transnational meeting of partners from the Drone4Build project, co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ program, whose aim is to promote skills relating to the use of drones in the construction sector.
Drone4Build promotes the integration of drones in the construction sector by developing training resources tailored to the skills needs of construction professionals. Its implementation will help improve processes related to inspection, data collection and processing, maintenance, and building renovation, within the context of the sector’s increasing digitalization.
Training programme: face-to-face and online
During the meeting, the partners have reviewed the results achieved in the first phase of the project, which focused on identifying the skills required for the professional use of drones in the construction industry. Following the analysis and input gathered through workshops with industry professionals, drone operators, trainers and other stakeholders, the Strategic Roadmap on skills for the use of drones in construction has been finalised and validated. These guidelines set out the key areas of knowledge and skills required to advance the adoption of this emerging technology.
Based on these results, the consortium is currently working on developing the Drone4Build training programme, coordinated by Fundación Laboral de la Construcción. The programme will combine face-to-face training with online content and will cover, among other aspects, drone operations, data processing, regulatory compliance and the integration of drones into digital processes applied to the refurbishment and renovation of buildings. The programme will be structured into different levels and modules to address the various training needs previously identified.
From theory to practice
On the second day of the meeting, the partners also discussed the next phases of the project, including pilot tests of the training programme and train-the-trainer activities, this will enable the content developed to be tested and will facilitate its subsequent application in the field of vocational training. They also have reviewed the planned dissemination and sustainability measures to continue bringing the project’s results to professionals, companies, training organisations and other stakeholders in the sector.
With this meeting, Drone4Build is moving towards a new phase in which the results obtained will be translated into specific training resources, with the aim of helping to update the professional skills needed to harness the potential of drones in the construction industry.
The project will continue to run until the end of 2027 and, in addition to the training programme, includes an open learning platform and pilot testing and train-the-trainer activities.
