The European projects of the Horizon 2020 programme, which are part of the Build Up Skills initiative, Net-Ubiep, BIMcert, BIMplement and BIMeet, have launched the BIM Alliance, which brings together 80 partners in 25 countries of the European Union (EU), including Fundación Laboral de la Construcción, as a Net-Ubiep partner.

This collaborative space aims to leverage the knowledge and experience of its members in Building Information Modeling (BIM), to apply it and explore opportunities to achieve energy-efficient buildings and reduce the energy footprint of construction in Europe, and to strengthen the industry's transition.

BIM Alliance members will have access to shared resources, a digital library of tools, modules and material combined. In addition, this initiative includes the creation of a "Centre of Excellence for Digital Construction", which will be developed together with a "Competence Centre", to explore the future of construction skills and the ways to encourage new professionals to join the industry.

In addition, Alliance members will support lines of work and promote smart construction, including off-site manufacturing, digital technologies and high-performance buildings. It will be an open space for sharing knowledge and best practices, to inspire collaboration and to highlight new opportunities in the digitization of construction.

Partners will also be able to provide BIM training, accreditation, digital certification of skills and an innovative EU-wide BIM passport.

The BIM Alliance opens its doors to projects and companies related to sustainable construction that want to join the initiative.

Free service BIM environment and other initiatives

This is not the first time that Fundación Laboral de la Construcción has worked on the transformation of the sector through BIM. Three years ago, the joint entity launched the Entorno BIM project, a free advisory service on the subject, which has received 134,900 visits and more than 255,000 pages viewed on its website.

In addition, the entity is working on three Erasmus+ projects, in which the digitalization and awareness of professionals and companies for the implementation of the BIM methodology is fundamental. Like Construction Blueprint, the strategic framework for skills in the European construction industry coordinated by Spain, with Fundación Laboral de la Construcción at the head. This project will develope a digitalisation framework for the sector, among other areas such as energy efficiency and circular economy; Icons, a project led by Italy, in which the entity is also working, together with three partners from Italy, Germany and Slovenia, to improve the digital knowledge of construction workers and their understanding of BIM and its application; or Si!BIM, coordinated by United Kingdom, where Fundación Laboral works with four partners from the UK, Belgium, Germany and Slovenia, to improve the digital skills of construction workers and future professionals, while at the same time raising awareness of the need to increase the use of BIM in the sector.
